Train Control System (GSM-R)

The GSM-R basestation is an integral part of our client’s railway communication system. We designed and developed both their custom GSM-R RRH as well as the baseband.  Due to the critical nature of the railway communications network, all nodes are designed with high-availability built-in. This includes the RRH which is actually two complete high power radios running in hot standby mode.  Due to market pressures the development and transfer to manufacturing was completed several months ahead of schedule and the solution is currently being deployed throughout Europe with different railway providers.

NLOS Module

To address the growing need for Small Cell backhaul in urban environments, our client requested us to design and build a Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) Backhaul module. The unit utilized OFDM / MIMO technology with up to 256QAM modulation and provided 70MBps of bi-directional bandwidth. In order to meet the market window we were provided with only a seven month window during which we had to design and develop a trial ready prototype. Our team accomplished this by leveraging one of our existing RF designs in order to accelerate the time to market.  After successful completion of customer trials we were requested to transfer the design to manufacturing.

Custom UMTS Remote Radio Head

To support testing of their handset devices our client needed to build out a high quality test network. For this they needed a high quality RRH that could be easily mated with their custom baseband. Rather than building the required solution from the ground up we leveraged our existing RRH platform to design and build a custom UMTS RRH that met our client’s custom specifications.  Given the variability of their available spectrum we had to create a number of different frequency bands that met their requirements.
